Bringing Forgotten Stories to Life: The Mae Sue Wooden Rocking Toy Project
We’re so excited to share a special project we’ve been working on with our friends at CODE Studio — introducing the Mae Sue Wooden Rocking Toy, a playful guardian born from Thai folklore, crafted with love, and designed to give back to the community.
In Thai tradition, Mae Sue is a protective spirit watching over newborns, with seven unique forms based on the day of birth. It's a story that’s often forgotten — and we thought it deserved a joyful comeback. So we teamed up with CODE Studio to reimagine Mae Sue as a series of handcrafted wooden rocking toys, created by skilled local artisans from Bangkok’s historic timber district.
This is a chance to celebrate culture, design, and community all in one. The best part? We didn’t stop at just making toys. With the support of and the World Vision Foundation of Thailand, our very first batch which consist of 7 Mae Sue rocking toys is now donated and on its way to children in under-resourced schools. Each toy carries not just craftsmanship, but also care, stories, and smiles.
And if you'd like to be part of it, we’re also running a hands-on cultural experience where you can learn the story of Mae Sue, try your hand at basic woodworking, and donate your finished toy to a child in need in our newest guided tour product “Crafting Smiles with Wisdom“ here. It's cultural learning, crafting, and giving — all in one beautiful loop.
We’d love to have you join us in keeping traditions alive, one rocking toy at a time.
