Connecting Sustainable Mobility and Discovery at Active Transit Bangkok 2026
On 2 June 2026, Roots Routes attended the Active Transit Bangkok: Bicycle and Public Transport 2026 Symposium at BTS Visionary Park ahead of World Bicycle Day. Bringing together organisations including BTS Group Holdings, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), UN Habitat, the Thailand-UK PACT programme, cycling advocates, and sustainability leaders, the event explored how cycling can play a greater role in creating a more connected, accessible, and sustainable Bangkok.
Throughout the afternoon, discussions explored how cycling can support first and last mile connectivity and contribute to a more sustainable city. Speakers highlighted both the opportunities and challenges of integrating cycling into everyday life, from improving infrastructure and accessibility to addressing concerns around safety, weather conditions, and secure bicycle parking.
Alongside the symposium, The Roots Routes hosted a booth in the exhibition area, where we introduced visitors to our self guided audio tours and shared how independent exploration can complement sustainable urban mobility. While many organisations focused on cycling infrastructure and active transport initiatives, our conversations centred on how people experience a city once they can move through it more easily.
One of the things that stood out to us was the connection between mobility and discovery. A city that is easier to navigate by public transport, on foot, or by bicycle is also a city that is easier to explore. Better connectivity not only supports everyday travel but also encourages residents and visitors to engage more deeply with neighbourhoods, local businesses, cultural sites, and community stories.
We also had the opportunity to connect with stakeholders from across Bangkok's mobility and sustainability sectors, gaining valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities shaping the city's future.Hearing different perspectives throughout the event highlighted how much can be achieved when different sectors come together around a shared goal.
As Bangkok continues to invest in active mobility, events such as Active Transit Bangkok create valuable opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and new ideas. We're grateful to have been part of the conversation and look forward to seeing how these discussions continue to shape a more connected and sustainable future for the city.
