Designed by Hongly Oeng, Roots Walk intends to make Thailand’s rich heritage, local history, and hidden cultural gems accessible to everyone. The platform transforms physical neighborhoods into interactive, self-guided audio walking tours, which allow travelers to explore at their own pace.
Our intention with The Roots Routes has always been to break down barriers to local heritage, and Roots Walk is our first major step toward that vision. Receiving the DEmark Design Excellence Award 2026 serves as a powerful reminder of where we are headed next.

Using a human-centered design approach, Roots Walk integrates four core features to enhance the traveler experience while supporting local micro-economies:
Friction-Free Access: Operates directly in web browsers via QR codes or links. No app download is required, allowing visitors to stay fully present in their surroundings.
Synchronized Audio Storytelling: Audio narratives dynamically align with the user’s movement as they explore.
Interactive Engagement: Incorporates gamification and quizzes to engage younger generations and international travelers.
Community Economic Impact: Digitalizes local heritage and uses an integrated voucher system to redistribute tourism revenue directly to community vendors.
